Commissioning
A clear route for commissioning on South African plant floors, written for teams who already work in live production.
How Commissioning runs across an Oric plant week
Commissioning covers the first live steps after installation on a South African plant floor. It helps teams check handover details, confirm the running condition and bring the equipment into production without loose notes.
Start with the installation boundary, the first product to be run, and the shift window available for proving the line. Commissioning on South African plant sites is shaped by permit access, power interruptions, compressor stability and the handover between fitters, electricians and production staff. We write these pages for active factories in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and regional sites where equipment must be checked inside normal output pressure.
Record the as-built condition before the first energising step and note any changes from the install drawing. A commissioning pack should stay with the machine file or at the control station for operators, maintenance and supervisors to reference on the next shift. That paper trail helps when a trip, alarm or rejected batch appears after the original team has left the area.
First production handover records
The handover set should show what was tested, which settings were confirmed and what still needs observation under normal load. We focus on start-up evidence, operator sign-off points and clear exceptions rather than broad installation summaries. One accurate record of live running condition is more useful than a long pack of unchecked assumptions.
Link Commissioning with the matching equipment file and the open snag items before expanding the running programme. Check safety circuits, drives, sensors and utilities again before transport documents or internal release sheets are signed. Use the contact form with the equipment name, plant location and one current site image if you need the page tied to an active handover.

Site conditions that affect start-up
Commissioning often has to account for constrained access, shared services and production stock waiting nearby in sites from Ekurhuleni to Durban South. Older plants may have undocumented cable routes, patched air lines or control panels modified across several shutdowns. If the line must run around fixed dispatch dates, state what can be isolated, what must stay live and which process cannot be interrupted this month.
Coastal humidity can affect panel condition, terminations and instrument reliability during first energising. Inland dust changes the way photo-eyes, fans and vents behave once the machine starts drawing air under load. Load-shedding and generator changeovers also matter because commissioning checks need to reflect the actual power conditions the plant works under.

Information to send before testing
Send the Commissioning brief with equipment photos, utility details, control drawings and the list of outstanding snags. Include the first product type, operating shifts and any fault that appeared during dry testing.

It helps to capture the handover note on the same day as the live run. Pair this page with the project record and maintenance file when purchasing or engineering needs a clear audit trail.
