Spares Ready
A spares-ready layout for South African plants, with parts access, technician movement and storage points placed where breakdowns actually happen.

How Spares Ready supports the week on site
Spares Ready plans floor movement around the places where parts are actually fetched and fitted. It positions storage points, technician access and repair routes closer to breakdown areas on working plant floors.
Start with the breakdown points, not the drawing. Spares Ready maps the route between stores, repair bays and the machine areas where belts, bearings, sensors and fasteners are fitted most often. Gauteng dust, Durban humidity and scheduled power cuts all change how parts are stored, carried and checked on a live plant site.
Photograph the stores door, bay entrance and each repeat failure position before any racks or bins are moved. Spares Ready works best when the pack includes current travel distances, trolley access and the items technicians search for during stoppages. That record helps the next shift follow the same route when handover notes are thin.
Stores-to-breakdown routing pack
The pack sets out parts locations, technician movement and repair access around the areas that lose time during common failures. It can include marked pick points, bin references, turning space for carts and a simple check list for restocking after a fitment. Names on the record match the plant's own bays and equipment tags so maintenance and stores use the same language.
Before expanding the brief, match Spares Ready to the right breakdown zone, stores location and technician entry point. Review site photos against current bays, cages and marked walkways, then send the latest view through the contact form with the path name and any repeat failure points.

Plant conditions that affect parts access
Johannesburg plants often need longer internal travel planned around dispatch pressure, forklift crossings and older stores layouts that grew over time. Cape Town sites may need extra thought around corrosion-sensitive stock near damp air, while Durban plants can have tighter cleaning controls around coastal residue. Separate shutdown-critical spares from routine weekly items so the route does not mix urgent retrieval with ordinary replenishment.
Dust changes label legibility, bin cleaning frequency and the visibility of painted route markers. Moisture matters for packaged bearings, electrical components and small boxed items kept close to washdown zones. During load-shedding periods, checks should note lighting levels, manual access and whether locked cages slow part retrieval when power is off.

Send photos of stores, repair bays, marked aisles and the machine positions where stoppages repeat. Include part sizes, trolley or pallet use, access restrictions and the times when maintenance can move through production areas. If there is an existing route, note what causes delay, backtracking or congestion.
